H. pylori Infection -Treatment.

The bacteria that infect the stomach lining are known as helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), which causes stomach cancer to become more likely to develop, gastritis, and is a significant cause of peptic ulcer disease. Treatment is necessary in order to eliminate the bacteria, heal the ulcers and prevent recurrence.

1. Triple Therapy (Triple Therapy) is the Standard Treatment.

The usual period of using triple therapy is between 7-14 days, as recommended by the doctor:

Two Antibiotics -killing H. pylori:

Amoxicillin (or metronidazole in case of allergies)

Clarithromycin

Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI)- to decrease stomach acid and encourage healing:

Esomeprazole, Omeprazole, Lansoprazole, Pantoprazole.

Sample treatment: Omeprazole + Amoxicillin + Clarithromycin 14 days.

2. Alternative Therapy (Quadruple Therapy).

Indicated in case of failure of triple therapy or in case of suspicion of resistance:

Two Antibiotics - tetracycline, normally combined with metronidazole.

Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI)

Bismuth Subsalicylate -defends against the stomach mucosa.

Usually taken for 10–14 days.

3. Sequential/Concomitant Therapy.

In other instances, it can be done sequentially: antibiotics and PPI are prescribed in a certain sequence to increase the eradication rates.

Concomitant treatment combines all medications in 10-14 days.

4. Positive Interventions at Treatment.

Use drugs according to the prescriptions and take them to the end.

There should be no alcohol when taking antibiotics.

Have a balanced meal, not very spicy, fried and acidic meals.

Take a lot of water to curb stomach irritation.

Repeat with the doctor to test the eradication (typically 46 weeks following treatment).

5. H. pylori Infection / Recurrence Prevention.

Wash your hands with plenty of water before consuming food and after visiting the washroom.

Drink clean, safe water.

Share food and eating utensils with infected people.

Have good hygiene in food preparation.

Treat relatives when several people are infected (as a physician recommends).
